RELOCATION ANXIETY

As with any major change, it is normal to experience a period of adjustment beginning anywhere from three to six months before the move until about six to twelve months after. This adjustment usually occurs regardless of the number of prior moves experienced. Individuals experiencing this adjustment may note some or all of an array of symptoms. These reactions vary in severity but are usually mild to moderate and rarely result in serious dysfunction. Fluctuations of mood, irritability, or depression are common. There may be either insomnia or a greater need for sleep. Energy levels may go down and appetite can increase or decrease depending upon the individual's characteristic reaction to stress. Talking these issues over with a professional may help relieve you of some of the stress you are feeling. Brenda has personally "survived" eight state-to-state transitions with her family and in addition to therapy, can provide real insight into ways to make your transition an easier one.
